West Chester Men's Basketball Escapes From Chestnut Hill, 66-58

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester placed four starters in double figures, but needed a 10-2 run midway through the second half to hold off a pesky Chestnut Hill squad, 66-58, Wednesday night in a non-league men’s basketball tilt at Hollinger Field House.

West Chester (6-4) ran its season-high winning streak to three straight as Kehinde Roberts and Lenwood Greenwood each posted double-doubles. Roberts registered a game-high 19 points and chipped in with 10 rebounds while Greenwood notched 14 points and 12 rebounds, including eight offensive efforts.

Roberts and Kenneth St. George the decisive 10-2 run with a 3-pointer and layup each that helped the hosts erase a 46-39 deficit, giving the Golden Rams the lead for good (49-48) with 8:16 remaining.

With 10 seconds left and the game still in the balance, Chestnut Hill’s head coach Jesse Balcer was hit with a double technical foul and ejected from the contest. St. George sank all four free throws, and then Roberts nailed one of two foul shots to put the game away.

Chestnut Hill (0-9) held a 31-27 advantage at halftime on the strength of 44 percent shooting from the field, including five 3-pointers. Kevin Whaley led the Griffins with 14 points off the bench. Brandon Williams added 13 points and Bryant Lennon and Trenton Davidheiser each contributed 12.

Also in double figures for West Chester was Ralph Hegamin with 10 points and nine rebounds, falling one board shy of a double-double himself.

West Chester is off until Saturday when the Golden Rams travel to Shippensburg for a 3 p.m. PSAC crossover match with the Raiders.
